These Passage Scholarship Program Rules (the “Rules”) govern conditional scholarships provided by Passage (the “Program”). The Program is also subject to the Passage Student Terms of Use, the Privacy Policy, the Passage Rewards Rules, information displayed on the Passage website, application or applicant portal (the “Portal”), and any scholarship-specific redemption terms presented to the student (the “Scholarship Details”).
The Scholarship Details may contain additional or different terms for a particular school, program, intake or redemption. They will control only with respect to the applicable Rewards requirement, potential scholarship amount, Eligible School, Eligible Program, intake, eligibility conditions, deadlines and payment mechanics. They do not override the restrictions applicable to an Activated Scholarship in the Payment of an Activated Scholarship section unless Passage expressly amends these Rules, subject to applicable law. The Program is not available for every student, country, school, program or intake.
Definitions
“Activated Scholarship” means a conditional Passage Scholarship that Passage has expressly confirmed in writing as activated.
“Confirmation of Enrollment” means confirmation received by Passage from an Eligible School or another source acceptable to Passage that the student remains enrolled in good standing in the applicable Eligible Program on or after the Enrollment Confirmation Date and otherwise satisfies the applicable enrollment requirements.
“Eligible Program” means a program at an Eligible School identified by Passage as eligible for the Program for the applicable intake, as specified in the Portal or Scholarship Details.
“Eligible School” means a school identified by Passage as participating in the Program for one or more programs and intakes.
“Enrollment Confirmation Date” means the census date, enrollment-reporting date, add/drop date, withdrawal or refund deadline, or substantially equivalent date used by an Eligible School to determine whether a student remains enrolled in the applicable Eligible Program, as communicated to Passage by the Eligible School and identified in the Portal or Scholarship Details. If the Eligible School uses more than one potentially applicable date, Passage will identify the date applicable to the student’s scholarship.
“Passage Scholarship” means a conditional, Passage-funded tuition benefit for an Eligible School, Eligible Program and intake.
“Rewards” has the meaning given in the Passage Student Terms of Use and includes any promotional points Passage permits to be used in connection with a Passage Scholarship.
Eligibility and Required Passage Process
To participate in the Program, a student must be eligible to use the Passage Services under the Student Terms of Use, be eligible for a scholarship at the applicable Eligible School for the applicable Eligible Program and intake, and satisfy these Rules and the applicable Scholarship Details. Eligibility may vary by country of residence, destination country, school, program and intake.
The student must use the Portal, follow Passage’s required application and enrollment process, and have the applicable application processed and submitted through Passage. Unless Passage approves otherwise in writing, the student must not use an education agent, recruiter, referral partner or another application channel for that application.
The student must take reasonable steps to ensure that the Eligible School identifies Passage where required and must provide any supporting evidence reasonably requested by Passage. A Passage Scholarship may be recalculated, cancelled or not activated if these requirements are not satisfied.
Using Rewards Toward a Scholarship
Passage may permit a student to apply Rewards toward a potential Passage Scholarship for an Eligible School, Eligible Program and intake. Before the student confirms, the Portal will display the number of Rewards to be applied, the corresponding potential scholarship amount denominated in US Dollars, and the material conditions governing the redemption. Passage may determine the potential scholarship amount using the selected Rewards and any other factors identified in the Scholarship Details. If the Eligible School accounts for tuition in another currency, conversion of the Activated Scholarship will be handled as described in the Student Terms of Use.
Applying Rewards toward a potential scholarship does not give the Rewards a cash value, create a tuition credit, guarantee a scholarship or make any amount payable. The selected Rewards may be reserved and unavailable for another use while scholarship eligibility and activation are pending. They will be treated as redeemed only if Passage activates the scholarship.
If the scholarship is not activated, reserved Rewards will ordinarily be restored in accordance with the Passage Rewards Rules, except where the Rewards were obtained through fraud, manipulation, error or abuse, or another treatment was clearly disclosed and is permitted by applicable law.
Unless the Portal or Scholarship Details expressly states a different maximum, the maximum aggregate Passage Scholarship available to a student under the Program is US$1,000. This maximum applies per student and includes all amounts provided by Passage under the Program, regardless of the number of applications, schools, programs, intakes or Rewards used.
Conditions of Activation
A potential Passage Scholarship remains conditional unless and until Passage expressly confirms activation in writing. Before activation, Passage may require confirmation that:
- the student has been accepted into the applicable Eligible School, Eligible Program and intake;
- the student has obtained all required immigration authorizations, lawfully entered the destination country and arrived by the applicable deadline;
- the student has enrolled and registered in the applicable Eligible Program on the required course-load basis and remains actively enrolled and in good standing through the Enrollment Confirmation Date;
- the student has completed the required Portal, identity-verification and document steps and provided any reasonably requested supporting evidence;
- the student has satisfied the tuition, deposit, fee, document, registration and other obligations for which the student is responsible, excluding eligible future tuition intended to be covered by the Passage Scholarship;
- Passage has received a Confirmation of Enrollment no later than 12 months after Passage submitted the applicable application, unless the Scholarship Details specify a different period;
- the Eligible School has confirmed the student’s enrollment and good standing in the applicable Eligible Program, the student’s finalized eligible future tuition and the absence of any hold or other condition preventing the scholarship from being applied; and
- any additional conditions identified in the Scholarship Details have been satisfied.
Passage may rely on information received from the Eligible School and other authorized sources. Until Passage issues written activation confirmation, no scholarship is payable and Passage has no obligation to fund it.
Payment of an Activated Scholarship
Passage’s activation confirmation will identify the final amount, Eligible School, Eligible Program and intake. Passage will, within a commercially reasonable period, pay or credit the Activated Scholarship directly to the Eligible School toward eligible future tuition charges for the Eligible Program. Rewards reserved for the scholarship will then be treated as redeemed.
An Activated Scholarship is not paid directly to the student; cannot be withdrawn, sold, assigned, transferred or redeemed for cash; cannot be applied to application fees, costs incurred outside the Eligible School or Eligible Program, or tuition already refunded or reimbursed; and cannot exceed the student’s finalized eligible future tuition obligation.
Changes or Loss of Eligibility Before Activation
Before activation, Passage may recalculate, reduce, extend, transfer or cancel a potential Passage Scholarship if an eligibility or activation requirement is not satisfied, ceases to be satisfied or cannot reasonably be verified. Passage may also make such a change if the Eligible School cancels, postpones or materially changes the Eligible Program or intake, ceases to be eligible or cannot apply the scholarship; Passage identifies an administrative, technical, currency, display or calculation error; or a change is required by applicable law, regulatory direction or school policy. For circumstances outside the student’s reasonable control, Passage may extend the activation period or permit the conditional amount to be applied to another Eligible School, Eligible Program or intake. Passage is not required to do so, and a conditional scholarship will not be paid in cash.
Deadlines
The Scholarship Details may establish deadlines to confirm a scholarship redemption and satisfy enrollment, arrival, verification and activation requirements. If the applicable deadline is not met, the potential scholarship or pending redemption may expire. Reserved Rewards will ordinarily be restored in accordance with the Passage Rewards Rules. Passage will not enforce an expiry where prohibited by applicable law.
Withdrawals, Refunds and Post-Activation Adjustments
If an Eligible School refunds, reverses or credits tuition paid using an Activated Scholarship, the student agrees that the portion attributable to the scholarship is payable to Passage and must not be paid to the student or converted into a personal cash or withdrawable school credit. The student authorizes Passage to instruct the Eligible School to return that amount directly to Passage. For a partial refund, Passage may determine the scholarship-attributable portion on a reasonable proportional basis or in accordance with the Eligible School’s refund allocation, subject to applicable law.
If the student withdraws, transfers or changes Eligible Schools, Eligible Programs or intakes, becomes ineligible or receives a school adjustment after activation, Passage may determine whether a returned amount will be cancelled or, in Passage’s discretion, applied to eligible future tuition at another Eligible School, Eligible Program or intake. Passage may correct or recover an amount activated or paid because of fraud, material misrepresentation, duplicate benefit, manifest error or an ineligible tuition refund, subject to applicable law.
Immigration, Taxes and Other Limitations
A potential or Activated Scholarship does not guarantee admission, enrollment, a visa, study permit, immigration approval or any other outcome. A potential scholarship and an activation confirmation are not issued or intended as proof of funds for immigration purposes unless Passage provides separate written confirmation expressly stating otherwise. The student remains responsible for satisfying all immigration and financial requirements. Any separate confirmation from Passage does not guarantee acceptance by an institution or immigration authority.
The student is responsible for determining and satisfying any tax, reporting or other governmental obligations arising from the Program. Passage may collect information, withhold amounts or issue reports where required by law. Passage does not guarantee that a scholarship will be tax-free in any jurisdiction.
Changes to the Program and These Rules
Passage may change scholarship amounts, Eligible Schools, Eligible Programs, intakes, Rewards requirements, maximums, deadlines and other terms for future scholarship redemptions. Passage may also modify, suspend or discontinue the Program prospectively, subject to applicable law.
Changes will generally apply prospectively. Passage will not materially reduce an Activated Scholarship through a later change to these Rules, except as expressly permitted by the Scholarship Details, these Rules or applicable law. Passage will provide any notice or obtain any agreement required by applicable law before applying a material adverse change to a pending scholarship redemption.
The version of the Rules identified in the Scholarship Details governs the applicable scholarship redemption unless a later change is required by law, benefits the student, corrects a non-material error or is accepted by the student. Current and archived Rules may be made available through the Portal.
Verification and Program Administration
Passage may request information reasonably necessary to administer, verify and audit the Program. Students must provide accurate, complete and authentic information. Passage may suspend a determination while verification is pending and may deny or cancel participation for fraud, manipulation, material misrepresentation, duplicate accounts or abuse of the Program.
Passage will make reasonable determinations regarding eligibility, calculation and activation based on the information available to it, subject to applicable law and correction of manifest error. A student may use the contact method identified in the Portal to request review of a suspected factual or calculation error.
General
The disclaimers, limitations of liability, governing-law, dispute-resolution and other general provisions in the Passage Student Terms of Use apply to the Program. Nothing in these Rules limits rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be limited. If any provision is unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain effective. Questions may be submitted using the contact information provided in the Portal or Privacy Policy.
